Academic Excellence

Excellence in academic performance is achieved at Harmony Hills Academy through our commitment to developing and perpetuating a true love of learning.  We foster this love of learning by employing staff members that align with the school’s mission and vision.

Early Years

Our academic program begins with Kindergarten.  In the early school years, children learn best when academics are conveyed through artistic media such as painting, drama, music, storytelling, and other direct experiences that stir the emotions.   As with older students, we guide students learning with the use of multiple intelligences, originated from Howard Gardner and adapted by Dr. Ramon Gallegos.

Elementary Years

First through Fifth Grade offers Harmony Hills Academy students a rich and challenging program that promotes learning, instills an appreciation of the arts, develops self-direction, and nurtures personal and social growth.  Harmony Hills Academy emphasizes a developmental approach to education while teaching students skills that support and extend their learning styles and foster intellectual curiosity, coupled with a lifelong love of learning.

Middle School Years

Harmony Hills Academy middle school program prepares students for the most demanding secondary schools both public and private and inspires them to reach their full potential.  The Middle School curriculum is designed to encourage the development of autonomous learners, intellectual curiosity, and creative and personal growth.  It is a unique learning community with a rigorous and imaginative curriculum culminating in a community leadership program.

Multi-Age Classrooms

Harmony Hills Academy believes in the pedagogy of multi-age classrooms.  Below are some benefits listed from The Association for Childhood Educational International  (ACEI).

  • Children are able to spend long periods of time with the same teacher; this allow the teacher to develop a better understanding of each child.
  • Children are viewed as unique individuals; the teacher focuses on each child’s strengths and needs.
  • Children are not labeled according to their ability and learn at their own rate.
  • Children become a “family of  learners” who support and care for one another.
  • Older children have the opportunity to serve as mentors and take leadership roles.
  • Children are more likely to cooperate than compete. The spirit of cooperation and caring makes it possible for children to help each other as individuals, not see each other as competitors.
  • Children are invited to take charge of their learning.  This sense of ownership and self-direction is the foundation to life-long learning.
